Hull-based accommodation provider recognised by RICS after purchasing two streets and transforming 87 properties into a new and exciting hybrid hall
Yorkshire, UK 27/02/17: The University Quarter, a partnership between Kexgill and the University of Hull, has been shortlisted in the Best Residential category in Yorkshire as part of this year’s RICS Awards. The University Quarter provide safe, affordable accommodation for University of Hull students amidst a vibrant and bustling community.
The development is the result of a landmark partnership deal between Hull-based, national accommodation provider Kexgill and the University of Hull, after Kexgill purchased 87 student homes, situated across two streets in the Auckland Avenue area of Hull.
This development provides a wide-range of versatile, cost-effective properties for students to live in and study, with the street becoming a ‘hybrid hall’ as a result. The completed scheme will cost in the region of £17m.
Many of the UK’s most innovative and community beneficial property projects have been shortlisted for RICS Awards – across 12 regional ceremonies – including the overall Project of the Year title. The highly regarded RICS Awards celebrate each region’s top initiatives and developments – in land, property, construction and the environment – that provide significant value to the communities they serve.
Richard Stott, Managing Director of Kexgill Group, said:
“We’re delighted that the University Quarter has been shortlisted in these prestigious awards. The close proximity of the University to the Auckland Avenue area means we’ve been able to create what we call a ‘hybrid hall’. This results in vibrant, student-centric environment where all residents are able to enjoy the luxuries of hall accommodation whilst still learning the important life skills that come as a result of looking after your own property.”
Trudi Vout, Director of Campus and Accommodation Services said:
“This is fantastic news. We know how important it is for our students to have access to a range of excellent accommodation and this award recognises the commitment Kexgill have made to help achieve this. We congratulate Kexgill on their success and look forward to continuing our work together to provide an outstanding experience for our students.”
The redeveloped houses in the University Quarter have had their interiors fully re-modelled, and Kexgill has appointed dedicated maintenance and cleaning staff to service the properties, alongside a rolling programme of full, sustainable refurbishment and recycling. The large-scale development also features CCTV security and dedicated repair and maintenance management, thanks to a custom smart phone app. Further street improvements are about to be submitted for planning approval.
Richard continued:
“This shortlisting is a great start to the year. We look forward to further developing our strong relationship with the University and the wider local business community, as we continue to provide a wide-range of cost effective properties, allowing students in Hull to experience the city at its very best.”
Kexgill were previous voted ‘Landlord of the Year’ by University of Hull Students Union in December last year. The RICS regional award ceremony takes place on 12 May 2017 at Centenary Pavilion Leeds United Football Club, Leeds.
